Theodore Roosevelt: Reborn in the Badlands Preview

This is a short preview of a new documentary Saving Americana is producing on one of America’s favorite presidents: Teddy Roosevelt and his remarkable connection to the small town of Medora, North Dakota.
He first traveled there to hunt, then later become a rancher. But most important, it was here he overcame the tragedy of losing his wife, and mother, in the same day. In the North Dakota Badlands, he rebuilt his body, his spirit and in a big way, American History itself. Said TR: “It was here that the romance of my life began.”
Medora could easily have become a ghost town. By any standard, it is a small town. The 2020 census shows 121 permanent residents call it home. But — like TR, this is a place that never gave up. Thousands visit the town in the North Dakota Badlands to view the Medora Musical — produced by the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation.
Here you can meet TR reprisors like Joe Wiegand and Kurt Skinner, who bring the former president back to life.
And come July 4th, 2026, a fantastic Presidential Library is opening on America’s 250th birthday. The half billion dollar project will be a state of the art museum and library, located on a bluff overlooking the town of Medora.
It has been designed to blend into the unique landscape of the Badlands, and visitors can walk on the roof and look off into the distance to the two ranches Theodore Roosevelt owned: The Maltese Cross, and the Elkhorn Ranch. It is said his time here not only allowed him to heal physically and emotionally, it helped him relate to everyday people — especially the cowboys of the western frontier.
“I would not have been President had it not been for my experience in North Dakota.”
Said TR of his time here: “I would not have been President had it not been for my experience in North Dakota.” It’s here you can find the only National Park named for a person. And it’s here, come July 2026, the world will discover how TR was “Reborn in the Badlands.”
