The New Barnstormers: The Flying Circus

In the 1920’s, many an American saw their first airplane in small towns where the “Barnstormers” dropped from the sky to thrill the crowds. In the days after World War Two, pilots frequently bought the surplus biplanes and toured the country. They were thrilling shows, and the pilots quickly became famous. Amelia Earhart, Charles Lindbergh and hundreds of others pulled off aerial magic.

Now, a century later, a group in eastern Virginia is bringing the thrills back to the sky. In Bealeton, Virginia, outside Washington D.C., “The Flying Circus Airshow” — using planes from World War Two, are wowing a new generation — and keeping this fantastic piece of Americana alive.
