Whiskey Flat
It was one of those legendary places — where the wild west got even wilder — but it was gone in a wink of the eye. The cowboys called it Whiskey Flat — because that’s where they did their drinking. These days, what’s left of the town in the mountains east of Bakersfield, California is under water. But in its hay day — it was one of those places Hollywood used to shoot those early westerns. Now it’s brought back to life once a year, in Kernville, California and a visit to the Cowboy Encampment, is really a trip back to a different time.
