The Lassen Trail Ride

 

The history of America is really the history of inventions…of innovation, of constant change. In just short decades, the young nation went from walking, to riding wagons, riverboats, steam trains, gas powered cars, and then airplanes. Some things that are just so iconic — just so Americana, really had a short life. The Pony Express — horses and riders racing across the west in ten days — only lasted 18 months to be replaced by the telegraph. Yet we can’t let it go and each year they re-enact that race from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California. It was the same story for the wagon trains. When the steam locomotives moved in, that romantic period of exploration in the west… well it just wasn’t the same any more.

But across America, groups big and small are recreating the old wagon trains. Each Spring and Summer they are back on the trail en force. One such trip traveled along a stretch of the Lassen Trail in Northern California. It was our introduction to this lifestyle that faded a 150 years ago — but will likely never die out. That old west road trip will always be in our DNA. This group spend several days on the trail.
