Chariots on Fire

Our friend Ralph Atkinson from outside Reno, Nevada, has developed an interesting hobby. He is a frequent horse and mule teamster — a big part of the famous Reno Rodeo, but a lot of people know him for his love of chariots. He is a big hit at the annual Mule Days, and we had to go out to his Back of Beyond Ranch to learn how he does this — and why? He has broken several bones in spills over the years. Says Ralph, “Chariot racing is kinda like Nascar, people just go to watch it for the wrecks.”
