With thousands of miles of freeway — and paved roads all over the country, it’s hard to imagine a time when a trip across that country could take weeks — as cars battled mud, rockslides, floods and the constant fear of just getting lost. But such was the case in the early 20th century. So as Americans bought some of the early cars, an outrageous plan was hatched to develop a cross country road. They called it the Lincoln Highway, and by the 20’s it was busy as Americans soaked up the adventure. Now a hundred years later, folks are retracing that trip. 2019 was an historic year on the Lincoln Highway — a century since the famous Eisenhower Army convoy traveled the road.  A group from the Lincoln Highway Association and another convey made up of old military vehicles — The Military Vehicle Preservation Association — traveled the road with large groups of history lovers in 2019.
