History Hero: Buffalo Bryan

Buffalo Bryan Marr started in rock and roll, but in his words: “rejected the lifestyle” to get in touch with his inner cowboy. He was nominated for the “Best instrumentalist of the Year” by the Academy of Western Artist in 2012.  Buffalo Bryan lives in Southern California but travels the west with his music.

We first met him at the Lone Pine Film Festival. Here you can climb through the unique rocks of the Alabama Hills — where hundreds of western films were shot — then watch those films in the theater. One of the most popular events is the Sunrise Tour — where the view; the sunrise; the music; and the poetry of cowboy Larry Maurice make for the perfect paring. Many of the old songs are right out of the movies. It’s one of the most popular events of the Film Festival organized each year by the Museum of Western Film History.
