Windmill Museums
The old windmills — their spinning and creaking — are such an icon of the old days in the American Midwest, Plains, and West. And they are making a comeback. Finally the old mills are being built by one of the original companies. There is also a growing army of windmill restorers — people who refurbish and keep these century-old machines running. And we’re seeing many museums dedicated to Windmills. Places like the American Windmill Museum in Lubbock, Texas; the Kregel Windmill Factory Museum in Nebraska City, Nebraska; Windmill Lane, in Hiawatha, Kansas; and the Shattuck Windmill Museum in Shattuck, Oklahoma, help tell the story of the old Icons of the American West. These are the folks truly Saving Americana.
